Picnic in the Park 2024 was held on Sunday 4th August. The weather was kind and around 500 people attended the BYO community picnic, and were entertained by the Horbury Victoria Band, the Horbury Town Football Club, the inaugural ‘Pride of Horbury’ Tug-of-War challenge (won by the Kings Arms team), and DJs Charlie and Drai Media. There were free donkey rides, painted stones, ice cream and also a treasure hunt organised by Horbury Guides and Brownies. Picnic is a joint enterprise between three Horbury volunteer organisations: Horbury Civic Society, Horbury Village Partnership and the Friends of Horbury’s Parks, assisted by the Rotary Club of Horbury and Ossett Phoenix. Picnic24 was generously suported by UKSPF (the shared prosperity fund) and Wakefield Council Our Year Festival Support, and by the many local businesses that provided raffle prizes.

The Yorkshire Faces mural, painted by Liam Staniford, proved very popular with attendees trying to identify all 50 famous Yorkshire faces.
