Hargreaves Yard is a row of 3 brick & stone Victorian terraced cottages. At the top of the yard, to the right, is the entrance to the ‘Penny Ginnels’, believed to have been named after the ‘penitentiary’, or to be correct, the House of Mercy at the top of the set of ginnels. This building is now Hall Cliffe School, run by the Witherslack Foundation.
