What we do

The Society’s main concern is with the public realm and particularly the built environment.

Our aims as a charity are:

To encourage high standards of architecture and town planning in the township of Horbury;
To stimulate public interest in and care for the beauty, history and character of the town and its surroundings;

To encourage the preservation, development and improvement of features of general public amenity or historic interest; and

To pursue these ends by means of meetings, exhibitions, lectures and promotions of schemes of a charitable nature

To deliver these aims, we will work with other organisations in Horbury wherever it possible and appropriate to do so.

We will also regularly review planning applications made to the Council and will make comments or raise objections to planned developments where we feel that the proposals do not represent the best interests of Horbury.

Following the decision to re-launch the Society in 2015, our first priority is to recruit new members and to elect a new committee made up of local people. It will then be for the committee to decide what the Society should do and how many events and projects it will run. However, we do hope to run a number of events throughout the coming year that will appeal to our members and to people who might be thinking about joining the Society.

Keep an eye on our events page and our Twitter account (@HoburyCivicS) to keep up to date with our plans.
